Hi Metalheads! I going to introduce today an amazing Progressive Rock/Metal band from Mexico called Magg. These guys have released a great debut album which has been published in a two-disc box set entitled “Birth / Revival”.

Magg was formed in Cancun in 2008 by five classical musicians apprentices of prominent classical maestros like Carlos Martínez Larrauri (Conductor of UNAM-ENM’s Classical Guitar Orchestra) or Francisco Navarro Lara, conductor of orchestras and personalities like José Carreras and Montserrat Caballé.

The band soon achieved local awards in several Battles of Bands and presence in many festivals. After release two demo recordings that obtained international acceptance through MySpace, they have focused their efforts to continue their musical formation, and after a period, the band entered to the studio to release an ambitious first album at the end of 2012.

The album “Birth / Revival” was released in mid-2013 and it was entirely performed in a successful opening concert, it’s distributed with the help of Mixdown Records and is available on every major online store like iTunes, Amazon or Spotify.

This album, published in two-disc box set, is really a great first release from these Mexican guys and it has been applauded by specialized critics. After I have listened this double album, I have to say without doubt, it’s a highly recommended release for all Prog Rock and Progressive Metal fans. These guys are fantastic musicians and they keep a high level on their compositions with an amazing sound and very good production.

“Birth” (disc 1) contains eight fantastic tracks, starting with the powerful “Mind’s Conflict” with vertiginous and amazing solos, we can enjoy great songs like the catchy “Brightness” with its awesome symphonic sound, “Golgotha” with complex progressive touches, a great voice and a epic final part, or “Silly Wisdom”, starting with amazing guitar and Power Metal sound increasing its intensity to a more progressive touches, fantastic melody and great keywords with Alfred doing really a great work on vocals.

“Beyond” is, in my opinion, another excellent track, a powerful and fast song with more angry voices in some parts, fantastic melody, complex composition, vertiginous execution and a demolisher end, it’s really amazing!

“Destroy And Darkness” is another recommended track which has a marked symphonic sound really fantastic, epic and glorious, with awesome solos and great voices! These guys are definitively great masters!

“Red King” is a short instrumental track in which we can see again the great power of these Mexican guys and “Rain” is the final song in this first disc, it’s a long track which starts with an atmospheric sound and it spreads an amazing progressive sound and fantastic melody.

In the second disc “Revival” we can find five long songs full of progressive sounds and different parts with neat melodies and a work still more impeccable in the voices. “Chinese Room” is an amazing masterpiece with a rich and complex composition, “Vineyard” is simply magical and “Modern Life” is an excellent track full of symphonic rock sounds with an energy very cool.

“Flying Circus” is another great song with a powerful sound, awesome keywords and a glorius end. The final track “Ladder” has a perfect melody, an intimate piano, a fascinating voice and a psychodelic and disturbing end very cool.

Definitively, you must listen the great work of this band. No doubt that Magg is formed by high quality musicians and their debut double album is amazing, I think absolutely that Magg is a great promise in the prog rock/metal world, of course.

You should not miss these Mexican guys, I invite you to listen to Magg, enjoy and leave your comments!
