I remember when LUSH arrived in Dublin years ago, the sweet scent wafting out the doorway as I passed by; surely those smells and colours couldn’t be natural? I was drawn in by bath bombs and won over by the fact that everything was indeed fresh, handmade and not tested on animals. The cosmetic store became an even bigger draw when I decided to go vegan six years ago. Most of their products are vegan (unless the package doesn’t state it) and I soon became addicted to collecting shower gels, and the shampoo bars were revolutionary! But for some reason my love for LUSH waned over time. I can’t explain it, though perhaps it’s that my appearance has never been a priority and I’ve never been very good at being ‘girlie’.
Now, as happens with time, I am aging. My skin isn’t as youthful as it used to be (duh, science) and my huge mass of hair is lank from lack of care and the decision to give way to gray. I need a bit of help. Luckily for me, I recently got the chance to be pampered by the LUSH girls on Grafton Street. From facials to arm massages and even getting to make my own bubble bar, I was reintroduced to all of the amazing products. I had never bothered with face masks before but I’ve been converted and my skin has thanked me for it. I’ve added some to my shopping basket, along with some moisturiser, shampoo bars and some essential bath bombs. The best thing about these products is you can feel how fresh they are, and the range just keeps improving all the time. I’m not sure I can shop elsewhere ever again, tbh.
One aspect that previously irked me about shopping or browsing in LUSH was the extremely eager, happy shop assistants. We Irish are not able to cope with upbeat, energetic people with good skin at the best of times and sometimes we just want to smell nice things in peace. But having had my pampering experience, it will be one more aspect I will look forward to when entering the sweet-smelling haven. The staff are just so jam-packed with product knowledge that they are bursting to tell you about, and if you give them the chance you might pick up a few tips and/or a free arm and hand massage!
