Let’s Make Out!

my current  makeup collection, these items are top priority to use up

Ever heard ofMakeout 2013? It’s a new movement about condensing your makeup stash, and reducing impulsive consumerism while promoting healthy shopping habits. It was first started by a lovely you tuber called pinksofoxy, and you can watch her Make Out 2013 video here. I don’t have tons of makeup, especially compared to some other beauty bloggers and makeup gurus, but even I feel guilty for having much more than I need. When I first started buying makeup I went overboard and bought tons of crap I never ended up using, what a waste! At the moment, I have my main collection filled with items I'm trying to use up, and then I have another, smaller stash, of  older products that I don't use anymore. I did have a lot more at one point.

these are the rejects, they will likely get thrown away soon

My "pledge" is that I will not purchase any makeup except to replace items I have used up, like foundation, but all eyes shadows, blushes and lipsticks will not be repurchased. My goal is to make it through the summer using only the makeup I have, without purchasing more. So any makeup I blog about from now on will not be a new product, but something already existing in my collection. I realize that I'm making myself sound like a crazy-cat-lady-makeup-horder/addict, but the sad thing is that sometimes I do feel like I’m too focused on shopping and materialism, to the extent that I never feel like I have enough and I use it as a form of therapy and a means of escapism . Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it's unethical to have possessions. I’m not about to give up all of my makeup  and move to an ashram or monastery any time soon. But at the same time, I don’t want an excess of things that I don’t need, don’t use and don’t make me happy. And it feels great, I believe that the less you focus on acquiring more and more material objects, you will feel happier and more at peace inside.
