L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Discovery Set Review

l'occitane shea butter set

Hello lovelies,

what do you think about discovery sets? I like them – often you can test a lot of products from a range for pretty affordable price. It is definitely much better way to test the products than the miniature samples.

Even though I’ve been familiar with the majority of L’Occitane products featured in this set, I thought it would be nice to remind myself why I liked them. The fact that I needed to order something to get a GWP didn’t hurt either. Besides Shea Butter set, L’Occitane offers Almond and Verbena discovery collections. All retail for 20 GBP and can be bought at hqhair.

The set includes the following items housed in a nice turquoise cosmetics bag:

l'occitane shea butter set 1

1. L’Occitane Foot Cream 10ml

I don’t use a foot cream often – I’m pretty lucky that the skin on my feet is pretty low maintenance. This lavender scented cream works ok for me, but I doubt it would help someone with drier skin. The consistency seems lighter than that of a hand cream.

2. L’Occitane Shea Ultra Rich Body Cream 50ml

It is another item that I’ve tried and liked. The consistency is slightly on the thicker side, but it spreads easily and skinks in relatively quickly. It is a great, albeit expensive, body moisturizer.

3. L’Occitane Shea Hand Cream 10ml

Another item that I really love is Shea Butter Hand Cream. It is one of L’Occitane classics and for a reason. It nourishes hands and cuticles and this small size makes it a convenient on the go.

4. L’Occitane Shea Soap Milk 100g

Compared to Bonne Mere collection of the soaps, this one feels much creamier. I tried it on my skin and, while it didn’t strip as much moisture as soaps usually do, still left my skin feeling pretty dry. However, I like it as a hand soap.

5. L’Occitane Shea Lip Balm 3ml

This lip balm is just ok. It has a light, non-offensive smell, it spreads easily on the lips, but it doesn’t sink in. This is the balm that I would prefer to use in winter, as it would create a balmy film on my lips. In summer, I prefer something that doesn’t stay on my lips. As for the performance – it is moisturizing, but keep in mind that my lips are in a pretty good condition at the moment.

6. L’Occitane Shea Ultra Rich Shower Cream 75ml

I’ve already reviewed it on the blog and I still love it. It is a gentle, lightly scented shower cream. It doesn’t create a foam, but it gently cleanses the skin without stripping it of its moisture. I found that I do not need to use a lot of body lotion after showering with it; in summer I can get away without using any.

This set retails for 20 GBP, but you can snag it for less if you use some of many available discounts on hqhair.

L’Occitane is not a brand big on discounts (at least not in Croatia) or nice value sets (if I buy a holiday set for $80+, you could at least give a gift box for free), so this set is not of a great value, but the retail value of the set is still lower than buying the items individually.

I’ve calculated the value of the items in the set

L’Occitane Shea Ultra Rich Shower Cream 75ml (250 ml for GBP 14 – 75 ml for approximately GBP 4.20)

L’Occitane Shea Ultra Rich Body Cream 50ml (200 ml for GBP 29 – 50 ml value approximately GBP 7)

L’Occitane Shea Hand Cream 10ml (30 ml for GBP 8 – 10 ml value approximately GBP 2.60)

L’Occitane Foot Cream 10ml (30 ml for GBP 7.50 – 10 ml value GBP 2.50)

L’Occitane Shea Soap Milk 100g (GBP 4.50)

L’Occitane Shea Lip Balm 3ml (15 ml for GBP 8.50 – 3ml value GBP 1.70)

and, as you can see, the value of the set (not including the bag) is GBP 22.50, which is not considerably cheaper compared to the set’s full price.

So, do I recommend it? It is definitely a nice option to try some products if you are new to L’Occitane. The product size also makes is pretty convenient for traveling. However, if you are expecting a bang for your buck, you might be disappointed.

xoxo Tamara
