Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede – Photos, Details & Review

By Kasthuri

Hello!

From English fragrance house Jo Malone, comes yet another luscious fragrance, Peony & Blush Suede.

Peonies in voluptuous bloom, exquisitely fragile. Flirtatious with the juicy bite of red apple and the opulence of jasmine, rose and gillyflower. Mingling with the sensuality of soft, blush suede. Luxurious and seductive

The main star of the fragrance are the Peonies – a rose-tinged lush floral note.

The other notes include red apple, jasmine, gillyflower (otherwise known as carnations), rose and a textural base note of suede.

Everything Jo Malone says about this fragrance is correct – it is indeed seductive and definitely the “essence of charm”.

It is feminine but not girly or light-hearted – the latter seemed to be a trend with many new fragrances last year and early this year. Instead, Peony & Blush Suede is a slightly more sophisticated fragrance – it is a warm, subtly sweet floral that I think will work wonderfully for evening engagements.

Peony & Blush Suede opens with the red apple note – it reminds you of real red apples like Pink Lady variant (those are the pink blush apples you can find in major supermarkets) – thankfully, the apple note is neither artificial nor cloying which would give the entire fragrance a plasticky note. The floral notes are not entirely distinct from one another – I can’t quite say yes, I note the jasmine or carnation on their own and I think they all meld together with the Peony note which is really rather lovely. It is far different from another peony fragrance, Penhaligon’s Peoneve, which has a similar warm rosey feel but Peoneve has a spicy, peppery kick absent in Jo Malone’s entirely floral version. I was expecting the suede note to come across as leathery – I don’t detect it on my skin at (and that actually pleases me!)

Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede might be one of the strongest fragrances I’ve come across in the entire fragrance range. Apart from Red Roses and Vintage Gardenia which last on me the entire day, Peony & Blush Suede is potent – 2 squirts (one on each wrist) lasted me the entire day. The fragrance didn’t change too much – the floral note waned a little towards the end of the day and I felt it turned a little powdery.

I love that Jo Malone switched up the traditional black ribbon for a pink suede one; I was just wishing that they had done a little more to the bottle packaging like they did for Plum Blossom and White Lilac & Rhubarb – perhaps a blush-coloured label or a pencil-tracing styled print of peonies on the label.

The campaign images are beautiful – I like the colour palette of nude-pinks, blush and sweet pinks but really, the gorgeous peonies in bloom take centrestage.

Jo Malone Singapore brought the campaign images to life during the fragrance launch – an oasis of peonies and the whole villa was filled with the scent of Peony & Blush Suede which was a visual and olfactory treat.

In the Jo Malone tradition, English Pear & Freesia or Orange Blossom are the 2 fragrances recommended to be layered with Peony & Blush Suede. Truth be told, I hardly ever layer my Jo Malone fragrances – I tend to enjoy them more on their own. I’ve yet to try but I’d like to amp up the rose notes in Peony & Blush Suede with Red Roses.

My favourites from Jo Malone still remain White Lilac & Rhubarb and Red Roses, with Plum Blossom trailing behind. Peony & Blush Suede is one that I will reserve for evenings out – there is something alluring and very womanly about this fragrance that make me think of candlelight, praline truffles and warm chocolate soufflés.
