Today has to be the most embarrassing day of Nicki Minaj's life and honestly my heart goes out to her. It was reported by numerous sources this morning, and confirmed by Nassau County Criminal Court, that Nicki's brother Jelani Maraj, that was just married this year, has been arrested and is facing some serious charges, rape in the 1st degree with a child under 17 and sexual misconduct against a child 1st degree. I am sure before this is over there will be a host of other charges like aggravated sexual assault. I am hoping beyond hope that this child wasn't his new brides child, while it is hard enough to trust people when you have children, no mother wants to think for a second that they fell in love with a predator and allowed them into their home. Although this matter wouldn't have gotten as much publicity if he were the brother of unknown 'Keisha Smith', the fact that he is Nicki Minaj's brother is the only reason people are intrigued, when the interest should take place in the form that a little girl will probably never be the same again. The masses pretend celebrities don't have predators, crack heads, alcoholics, and the likes as a part of their families. People tend to forget that they are exactly like us with more money and fame. While I am sure Nicki is embarrassed, because let's face it, who wouldn't be that their own brother is being accused of something so monstrous, I don't think this will hurt her brand in the least, and it SHOULDN'T. Nicki Minaj is NOT her brother. What I am wondering is will she be supporting Mr. Maraj, whether it be financially or morally, through this time that I am sure is ripping both families apart because as of now his attorney is listed as Pro Se. I wonder if the child in question is damaged beyond the physical and if any therapies will be needed so that she can heal and get past an ugly point in her life. I have a lot of questions that I am sure will never be answered. If it is proven that Jelani Maraj in fact raped this child, I hope they put him under the jail, I don't care who's brother he is. On the other hand if he is proven innocent, then what? His name is tarnished by just being accused. His life will still hold the stigma that he was accused of raping a 12 year old girl, something he will never be able to get away from. There will be a lot of broken hearts, bruised souls and hurt families no matter how this turns out. I just hope the victim is getting all the care that she needs, no child should ever have to endure any type of abuse.
