For the past 7 years the iTunes Festival has been something exclusive to London. Here in London we’ve always been proud of, shown off about and felt incredibly lucky to have the chance to attend a month of free gigs every year at Camden’s Roundhouse. This year iTunes festival has grown up and has broken out of it’s city home in London to brave the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
It’s an exciting move for them and we wish them luck, however they seem to have played a fairly ‘safe’ line up. Coldplay have and will always be a favorite of Apple having been friends with the late, great Steve Jobs. The likes of Imagine Dragons, Keith Urban and Soundgarden fill in the rest of their rock, indie, pop offerings with the addition of the mainstream hip hop/rapper acts such as Kendrick Lamar and Pitbull, both American.
It sometimes feels the same with the iTunes single of the week, they like to play the safe card rather than offering up someone who’s a bit out there and different just to see what happens. Go on iTunes, you can influence millions, surprise us for once!
