Ever hear of an AeroPress? No? I mean, I guess unless you’re some sort of a serious coffee connoisseur or rather a coffee-gadget connoisseur, I wouldn’t expect you to know what this little thing is. But I do. Because I’m so fancy. Just kidding.
About 1 year ago, I visited The Hitch, San Marcos’ own food trailer park, and got a delicious cup of joe pressed fresh from one of these newfangled contraptions from Redbud Roasters, which by the way is now a brick and mortar joint on LBJ, just south of The Square. It was delicious, and I thought the press was really cool.
Anyway, I had raved and raved about how cool this little jobby was to my coffee-loving husband, and while he seemed quite intrigued, nothing came of it until now. Honestly, we kind of just forgot about it.
But this past Saturday, being my love-bucket’s birthday, (WOO HOO! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY!), we decided to go ahead and grab him his very own AeroPress after rediscovering it through the interwebz. And hurrah! It came in the mail Friday night. So we decided to give it a whirl.
The official AeroPress site says, “The AeroPress by Aerobie, Inc. brings out the best in every bean. Its unique brewing method gives the richest coffee flavour, with less bitterness and acidity, and no grounds left in your cup!” We’ll see about that. We decided to go ahead and do a first impressions review just after unpacking and washing the device.
It’s so easy, you guys… One minute from start to finish. The actual press time takes only 20 seconds. Twenty. Seconds. That’s it. Boom. Coffee. Smooth, rich and pure coffee that’s friendlier on your tummy than regular brew. You just grind your beans, put it in the cylinder with a filter, boil some water, pour, stir, press, enjoy!
The acid level of AeroPress brew is much less than conventional methods, due to the shorter brew time. In fact, laboratory testing measured AeroPress coffee as having under one fifth of the acid generated by regular drip coffee makers. Hurrah!
So, does it work? Is it really as easy as they say? Is it really as delicious as they claim?
Yes. Yes, it does and yes it is. It really is so simple and easy to use, and the end result tasted wonderful.
Even though we used a kind of nasty flavored coffee for the first go-round that we randomly had laying around rather than the good stuff – don’t ask why – even THAT was delicious, smooth and clean tasting. Impressive.
Michael used the press again this morning with his usual beans, and the result was even better.
So good. This little plastic gadget really does work the way they say it does, and it really does make whatever bean it is you’re using magically transform into something so smooth and super drinkable. Sorcery.
We give this product an A and will totally recommend this to any and everyone we run into. Yeah, we’re pretty enthusiastic about it. If you want to grab one for yourself, they’re going for about $26 on Amazon! Im not in any way shape or form sponsored, and we purchased this AeroPress with our own moolah. I just really liked it and wanted to share our first impressions with you all.
