Samsung has announced three new devices, including an all-new SmartWatch, Galaxy Note 3 and a revised version of Galaxy Note 10.1 – all this on the first day of IFA 2013. We must admit that our expectations were met!
Samsung Galaxy Gear
At the IFA exhibition, Samsung presented their first smart watch. The Galaxy Gear works with all Galaxy devices (and for the time being, ONLY with these devices).
The appearance of the Galaxy Gear is dominated by a relatively large touch sensitive screen (1.63-inch Super AMOLED with a resolution of 320×320), encased in a metal housing. The single-core processor runs on 800MHz, the memory is 512MB and it has 4GB storage capacity. The battery capacity is 315 mAh (25 hours of use) and this smart watch even has a 1.9 megapixel camera!
The Samsung Galaxy Gear will be available from September 25 in 149 countries, in six different colours. The Galaxy Gear will cost around 299 euros.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung also announced Galaxy Note 3 phablet with 5.7-inch display and a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The new Galaxy Note is slightly larger than its predecessor and improved on several points. The device is equipped with a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels; it has 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage memory, which can also be expanded using a microSD memory card.
Of course, we must not miss the S-Pen stylus. The functions of the pen are improved, according to the Korean manufacturer. Also, the multitasking is improved and MultiWindow introduced. Furthermore, the phablet has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G and 4G support, a webcam on the front, a 13 megapixel camera on the back, and a 3,200 mAh battery. The Galaxy Note III weighs 168 grams and is 8.3 millimetres thick. This makes the unit slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the Galaxy Note II.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 edition
Samsung has launched the new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition at IFA 2013. The tablet comes with a high resolution display with a size of 10.1-inches and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. In addition, the tablet has no less than 3GB of memory and a high resolution of 2,560 by 1,600 pixels. Furthermore, the tablet comes with 32GB of storage memory, a microSD card reader, WiFi, optional 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, a microUSB port, a 8220mAh battery, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS with Samsung’s own TouchWiz interface. Located on the front is a 2 MP camera and on the back there is 8 MP version. The whole device is only 7.9 millimeters thick and weighs 535 grams.
The first generation of Galaxy Note 10.1 has been around for more than a year, so it was time for a successor. Although there were rumours about a 12.2-inch model, Samsung presented the new Galaxy Note 10.1 at IFA 2013. The model is improved in several points, but the resolution of the display and processor are the most important ones.
