Don’t be afraid of Twitter! In today’s episode, I tell you exactly how to integrate twitter into your job search. Do NOT be scared of Twitter any longer! It is truly an untapped resource for your job search!

I teach a career development course at DeVry University and the other night I was doing a social media tutorial. I asked everyone what social media accounts they used and everyone had a LinkedIn account and a Facebook but NO ONE had a Twitter account.  My students thought I was crazy when I said it was a great job searching website….

Tune in to learn how to use twitter to find your next job:

Here is a checklist you can use for job searching with Twitter:

  • Create a list of recruiters (search recruiter, (your city)
  • Professional photo and bio (160 characters only)
  • Link bio to your LinkedIn profile or online portfolio
  • Make sure what you tweet is job related (quotes, a question, an insight, a recommendation, something personal occasionally)
  • Participate in tweetchats for your industry
  • Uncover Twitter Job boards (search (your city) jobs) and add to local jobs list
  • Follow twitter hashtags #jobs #careers #employment
  • Set up a week of tweets in 10 minutes (twuffer.com)
  • Retweet people you are interested in (flatter them!)
  • Follow industry blogs and news sites to stay up to date with the knowledge you need for interviews
