When J's doctor told him he needed blood pressure medications because of his weight, he knew it was time to change. Fortunately, his doctor told him about the low-carb, high-fat diet and told him to go on the Diet Doctor website. This is what happened:
I had a rude awakening while visiting the doctor and learning that I was going to have to go on high blood pressure medication. The doctor told me that my weight was the likely cause. At 5'8″ (173 cm) and 276 pounds (125 kilos), I was very much overweight. At 47 years old, my ability to engage in the activities I love was becoming very limited. I was starting to have trouble fitting in roller coaster seats and I was over the weight limit to zip line. Thankfully, my doctor was a huge proponent of LCHF and gave me the Diet Doctor website.
Once again, I felt like going to the gym.
I started the LCHF diet with a fairly liberal allocation of 50-75 grams of carbs per day. However, my weight loss was steady but not where I needed to be. After six months, I reduced my carb intake to 20 grams per day or less. That was in October of 2018 and I started seeing a very steady decline in weight and, most noticeably, my waistline. Once again, I felt like going to the gym. In November 2018, I started working out three times per week for thirty minutes each session. I do mostly resistance exercises at the gym but I also love to take long walks now. As of March 2019, I have reached 190 pounds (86 kilos) for a total weight loss of 86 pounds (39 kilos). My biggest challenge was the initial period when I craved carbs. This went away after about two weeks but I had to be very careful during that period to avoid temptations. Once the cravings passed, carbs do not even sound appealing any longer. I really wish I would have known starting out that keeping my carbs below 20 grams would have made all the difference in the world.
I feel absolutely terrific. The aches and pains I would before are gone and my energy level is through the roof.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your story, J! It's also great that more and more doctors are able to empower their patients with effective lifestyle advice, so that prescribing drugs may not be necessary. As a low-carb diet (as well as weight loss) tends to reduce an elevated blood pressure, I suspect you're may now be able to do without it?
