Happy Friday from Lace n Ruffles HQ! As we're sipping glasses of Chardonnay we're also having some nostalgic moments and a few giggles about those hairy questions in life. Okay, I'm talking about those really hairy, awkward questions that we all had when we were teens, those that we found way too embarrassing to even bring up with our parents. Watch this hilarious video by Veet and you'll be rofl-ing till your eyes get teary I promise!
Ooh! How we LOVE those acronyms like PMS (or project management system as the dad called it)! How much do you remember those moments when we felt so baffled and helpless when facing questions up in our heads like 'how to use a tampon'? I didn't recall getting much help on those as a teen from my parents. This is how they handled my tricky questions: 'Go ask your Dad honey'. And as you would expect, my Dad would ask me to go to my Mum! At a young age I think I've learnt a thing or two about how NOT to respond to those hard questions. Even if we aren't parents yet, there're simply way too many situations in life when we're being bombarded with the dumbest and the most awkward questions, perhaps in front of your colleagues, siblings or your partners. How do we as intelligent grown ups handle them without losing our cool? In most scenarios, it's simply not possible for you to ignore the dumbest questions. So here we present our 4-step guide on how to answer difficult questions intelligently that work even for the dummies I promise.
1. Think and buy your time by saying nothing like, 'This is very interesting and I haven't thouoght about it. I'll have to think that one over.'
2. Raise a question and flip back the spotlight to the one who asked you the question initially by asking 'What do you think of this?'.
3. Suggest a time when you can have a deeper conversation with the person on the topic by saying you will email them with further details or text them with further readings.
4. Use your sense of humor! It's the ultimate weapon for distracting someone's attention and making them forget about their intent.
Disclaimer: Although these four strategies are trialed and tested by us they are by no means bulletproof.
So Happy Friday my dear readers and I hope you all had a good dose of laughter throughout this week! Make sure you share the most hairy questions you've ever had in comments below and how you got away with them intelligently!
Until next time, stay curious.
