Blogger crush! One of the perks of working on my ‘Hangout’ series here on Lace n Ruffles is that I get to meet a whole bunch of fun-loving and inspiring people from all walks of life. And trust me, sometimes I feel seriously starstruck! Most of them are just like you and me, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. This week I spent a few minutes chatting with these two traveling sweetpeas, Stephen and Jess, behind their travel blog Flying The Nest. Before talking to the couple I spent a good few hours in bed scrolling through their Instagram feed and it was totally addictive. Their laughter and travel stoke moments they share in their Insta feed all seem highly contagious! Now get ready to be bitten by the travel bug and check out what goes behind the scene of their globetrotting lives.
Biggest guilty pleasure while travelling?
S & J: Staying at a luxury hotel or resort. As we are adventure travellers we spend most of our time outside and doing activities which means we don’t spend much time at the resort. However, for some reason coming back to a nice resort just adds to the experience of our trip and is something we find hard to change.
Most memorable travel experience?
S & J: Speaking of luxury travel, one of the most memorable times traveling would be the time we had the opportunity to stay in an overwater bungalow in The Maldives. It was all paid for by ourselves so it made the trip even more worth it. It was also probably a once in a lifetime travel experience as it cost us more than we would like to admit.
Most hilarious animal encounters and where was it?
S & J: We visited Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali which as you guessed it is full of monkeys. Jess was casually walking through unaware of a cheeky monkey sneaking up on her attempting to steal her water bottle. The screech that came out of her when his little hand touched hers roared through the whole temple, it definitely was one of those ‘you had to be there stories’.
Best secret hangout spots in your current city?
S & J: We are currently based in Perth, Australia which is full of little secret spots. We love heading up to the Mindarie Marina and sneaking into a secluded beach. There’s such a perfect feeling having a whole beach to yourselves. We even put together a video of a time we snorkelled in Mindarie along side an eagle ray…just excuse the epic music.
If you were a tourist in your home country how would you spend a day in town?
S & J: You can’t go past our beautiful beaches and Mediterranean climate in Perth. To be honest we would do what we do every day now and spend it down at the beach catching some sun.
Best lesser known shopping spot in your current city/ hometown?
S & J: Not known for its shopping but more so its dining options – Sorrento Hillary’s has a few local boutique shops where you can pick up some nice clothes from local fashion designers.
Best packing tips you hoped someone would have told you before your first trip?
S & J: You do not have to pack everything, less can be more and less means more space for shopping.
Best tips for staying fit & healthy on the road?
S & J: We love to stay active when we travel. Trying to find adventurous ways to see and explore a new country is how we keep healthy during our travels.
Biggest source of inspirations for seeing the world?
S & J: YouTube. We are kinda obsessed and spend way too much time watching the lives of travel vloggers. There’s just something about being able to seeing where they are and hearing them excitedly share their travel stories.
Your biggest gain since started blogging?
S & J: We are still very new to blogging (launched in September, 2014) so we are still going full speed ahead to work towards a big gain. Of course having the opportunity to be featured on here on Lace n Ruffles is amazing!
Thank you, Stephen & Jess.
