Recently, as a treat for our wedding anniversary, we decided to book a hotel in Birmingham for the night, to make the most of our evening out, instead of having to hop on the last train home or bring the car.
We decided on Hotel Du Vin, mainly because of its location in Birminghams’ Business district, and because of liking the place when we ate there a few months back. The hotel has a lovely bar and lounge area, as well as its own restaurant and below street level ‘pub’.

A sweeping staircase leads from the back of the lobby up to the rooms, and I liked the fact that they were all named rather than numbered.
The room we had was one of the largest hotel rooms we’ve stayed in, for a standard room, and the bathroom was something else as well, size wise. The rooms were very monochrome and dark, but actually, I quite liked the overall effect it gave.
The addition of a Nespresso machine is always a huge plus for Lee, and it was nice to see a stocked mini bar, instead of just a menu inside of what you can order if you want to.
Full sized iron and ironing board and decent hairdryer, all other big pluses to the room. I was in my element with the gorgeous huge free-standing bath and gigantic rainfall shower. The game of how many baths and showers you can have in a one night stay ensued! (3…if you’re wondering!)
Unfortunately, the bed wasn’t the best we’ve had in a hotel – there was a gap between the mattress and the sloping headboard meaning that pillows kept slipping through and threatening to fall on the floor, so not the most peaceful nights sleep.
All in all, I was pretty impressed with the rooms in Hotel du Vin and wouldn’t hesitate in staying there again.
Disclosure: We paid for our room and the hotel did not know that we may write about the experience
