Reporting to the Team Lead, this position provides the required application expertise to utilize a complex suite of GIS tools to create, qualify, analyze and deliver our corporate spatial data.
The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is university (bachelor) program in a specialized field of study and work. It would typically require a minimum of three to six years professional experience and continuous learning to competently perform this job. An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide design assistance and implementation expertise for the municipalities spatial databases and their integration with other inter-departmental data sources.
• Provide backup assistance to the public regarding requests for addressing or mapping data.
• Provide spatial data analysis, custom mapping products and data compilation expertise that will ensure the timely completion of reports and supporting graphics required by other departmental employees on a project by project basis.
• Maintain, collect, validate, convert and capture data into the geographic databases of the municipality.
• Provide GIS technical support services for County employees as required.
• Maintain open channels with other agencies regarding the acquisition or exchange of spatial datasets.
• Provide assistance in the design and implementation of the GIS component on the County’s website.
• Provide assistance in the design and implementation of the County’s GIS web/mobile applications.
• Monitor all new and existing datasets to ensure there is an appropriate level of metadata.
• Possess a thorough working knowledge of the Alberta Land Survey System.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge base related to the Municipality’s GIS and CADD technologies and keeps informed of associated emerging technologies.
• Adhere to Health and Safety Legislation and Rocky View safe work policies and procedures at all times, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and environment.
Skills and Aptitudes:
• Graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of computer aided drafting (CADD), surveying and/or GIS technology.
• Must have a minimum of 1-2 years experience in computer aided drafting and design (CADD) and 3-6 years experience in a GIS environment.
• A working knowledge of graphics and publishing software is required.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Project, and Access).
