Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life Countdown – Nov 15

What would a countdown be without the Gilmore Matriarch?  Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop) went through plenty of challenges and changes over the 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls.  But she always did so with poise, grace and her signature snark and sass.  Sometimes we liked her, sometimes… not so much.  But she always has our love.  Our favorite Emily moments are below.  

Sairah- Emily getting rid of items because it no longer brings her “joy” (Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life) Yup, that’s right. I am doing it again. I am picking a favorite from the trailer. I just love that little snippet so much and already know that it will become a favorite Emily moment of mine.

Cassie- “Buy me a boa and drive me to Reno because I’m open for business” (S5E1)
This is certainly one of the more bizarre moments we’ve seen from Emily. I think it has something to do with Richard getting her fired up that always brings out the full-on crazy. In fact, the line from Richard which prompted this line was “Only prostitutes have two glasses of wine with lunch.”  Personally, I think Richard is severely underestimating the fun of day-drinking.

Aubrey- The Vicious Trollop (S2E16)

Emily letting loose and bonding with her daughter over something so trivial as lipstick is one of my favorite moments of the entire series. To me it’s the first real attempt we see from her to connect outside of their past and outside of Rory. And let’s be real, no one deserves(needs) a fun Girl’s Night Out more than Emily Gilmore.

Emily: That’s a pretty color. What is that?
Lorelai: It’s called “Vicious Trollop”.
Emily: Oh stop it.
Lorelai: [holds up the lipstick tube for Emily’s inspection]
Emily: Now why would you name a lipstick something like that?
Lorelai: ‘Cause “Dirty Whore” was taken?
Emily: You frighten me.
Lorelai: Wanna try some?
Emily: No thank you!
Lorelai: Come on, mom, try it.
Emily: It won’t look good on me.
Lorelai: Sure it will!
Emily: Well all right. But if I look ridiculous …
Lorelai: I’ll be the first one to point it out.
…
Lorelai: [chanting] You’re a Vicious Trollop, you’re a Vicious Trollop…
Emily: Lorelai.
Lorelai: Sorry.

Hannah- Emily gives Shira Huntzberger a piece of her mind. (S6E5) – There is no question that Emily is protective of Rory but this takes the cake for me.  The fact that she does it at a party, which is so anti-Emily makes it even more of a moment for me.  I adore a protective Emily and this was my favorite moment.

Lisa- Emily going to the birthday party for Rory in Stars Hallow (S1E6)
