Gia Hoi (campsie)

The last time I ate at Campsie was years and years ago, so I have limited memory of it but I've heard from numerous people that Campsie is the number one place for Malaysian food! I did mention that to my parents but nope they wanted Vietnamese food, so that's what we ate :P My dad was looking for a Vietnamese restaurant we ate at agessss ago but we didn't seem to find it and we stumbled across Gia Hoi, which had a massive 20% opening special discount and being the asians we are we walked straight in!

Gia Hoi had a nice air conditioned interior which was packed with people eating their steamy hot pho. The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from; rice, noodle, soup, rice vermicelli and so much more! We ended up choosing 'Pho tai' (Raw beef noodle soup), 'Bun dac biet' (Pork meat ball, shredded pork, minced prawn, grilled pork, spring rolls and rice vermicelli) and 'Com ga da don' (Crispy chicken with tomato rice). 

The service was not the best, the waiter that served us spoke limited English and she was quite rude when asking us to repeat what we said. Another waiter, who spoke Cantonese, was very polite as we too speak Cantonese and she was able to help us easier than the first waiter.

Phở tái| Raw beef noodle soup | $12.00 (Large)

This has got to be one of the best pho that I have ever eaten! The beef was soft and tender, this may be because the beef came out raw. The soup was not too salty or thick and there was perfect amount of fish sauce in it. There is also a generous amount of beef in this pho and the portion of the overall dish was very large and extremely filling!

Bún đặc biệt| Pork meat ball, shredded pork, minced prawn, grilled pork, spring rolls and rice vermicelli | $13.00

This dish was quite standard as there was nothing outstanding from other 'Bun dac biet' I have eaten, however it was quite refreshing and light since it was so humid outside. The stand out element in this dish was probably the fish ball/ strips, it was different from any other fish balls/ strips I have eaten. The sweet and sour sauce gives this dish a lot of flavouring and you can ask for refills! :D

Cơm gà da dòn| Crispy chicken with tomato rice | $11.00

I absolutely love tomato rice but unfortunately this tomato rice was quite disappointing because the rice was too mushy and a bit overcooked. The crispy chicken was not too bad, it had a nice crunchy skin which complimented the soft, tender meat underneath it. This dish also tastes very nice with the sweet and sour sauce.

Overall, the most outstanding dish was the pho, with its tender and juicy beef, the other two dishes were very standard and did not have a 'wow' factor but are still quite decent dishes that are very filling. Campsie is a bit far for me, but I know they have a few branches around Sydney so I may go visit there other branches to try there other dishes :D
