When we found out that we were going to be expanding our little family of 4 to 5 (whoa... that's not so little anymore, is it?), my first thought was, I hope this baby is safe, healthy and happy in there! My second thought? Is it a boy or a girl?! I MUST KNOW!!!
It seems that's one of the first questions asked when someone finds out I'm pregnant, too, or any pregnant woman for that matter. First, "when are you due?" quickly followed up with "Boy or girl!?" I always answer with a shrug and finally, the third question, "What are you hoping for?"
Michael always answers with the most diplomacy, saying that all he cares about is a healthy child. How kind. Major wants a sister, while Jack has no idea what's going on whatsoever.
As for me? I have always dreamed of having a daughter. When I was pregnant with Jack, I really thought he was going to be a girl. In fact, when we found out he was a he, I was shocked. I mean, I KNEW in my SOUL that I had a baby girl in there.
But, clearly, I was wrong. Very wrong. But how amazing! I'm so glad I was wrong. I fell in love with my son hard and fast, and I would never change him or anything about him ever. Never ever. I love having two boys, and all that comes with it.
Boys are cuddly, sweet and they sure do love their mom, that's for sure. The amount of times I'm bombarded with kisses and hugs and cuddles from Major is unmatchable. He is a self-professed Mama's Boy. Jack may not be as lovey-dovey as Major, but he still is a heart melter, and when he does cuddle into my arms, I could just die. He is perfect in my eyes.
With this pregnancy, like my last, we opted to take a non-invasive DNA blood test that would test for signs of Trisomy 18 and Downs Syndrome in the baby, as well as other chromosomal abnormalities, and a little side-perk of the test is that it can also determine gender. Science, man... Science. Last time, after the test, it took 4 or 5 weeks before we could get our results. This time, it was only 6 days!!!
So before we got THE call with THE news, I decided to look up some "old wives tales" for gender prediction, just to see how accurate it was.
What will it be? A or a !? If I were going strictly by these, I'd be SO confused. I'm totally split!
Since our immediate families don't live near us, we weren't able to do a gender reveal party like we did with Jack, so planning for a way to reveal whether we were going to have a little boy or girl was proving to be tricky. I mean, I didn't want to just send a text or do a simple phone call. BO-RING!
So instead, I went to a new place in town, Berries by Quicha, to help us out. We'd been to Berries by Quicha a couple of times since they opened earlier in the month, and was blown away by not only the beautiful and creative berries, and the sheer variety in flavors and designs of the chocolate covered strawberries, but I was impressed with what Quicha was able to do with her chocolate covered strawberries. I mean, they're not your average berries by any means. If anyone could pull off a gender reveal via berry, she could.
I placed my order on Thursday, and as a family, Michael, Major, Jack and I picked them up Saturday afternoon. Michael and I could hardly wait to share our news, first with the boys, then with our family via video and photos.
