Friday Reads: Katie the Candy Cane Fairy by Tim Bugbird The moment I saw this book in the store, I knew I had to add it to my Holiday Book Roundup.  The illustrations were so bright and colourful that it was irresistible to me...and it was about fairies so I knew my girlies would be all over it...and I was right.
Katie Candy Cane is the Christmas Queen in Fairyland.   Every year, Katie and her sisters work hard to perfect the Christmas pageant and it always goes off without a hitch because of the magic of the stripey candy canes.  When they wake up the day of the pageant and all of the stripes are suddenly missing, panic ensues, but they decide to have the show anyway and it is still wonderful without the magical stripes...besides, there was a special surprise for Katie that the stripes were being used for.
My girls ADORED this book.  I don't think they have ever sat so still for any book ever.   It is told in rhyme and has a lot of words but a fairly easy rhythm.
Ever since we pulled this one out, they have been hauling it around.  Snuggling on the sofa "reading" it together, laying on the floor ohhing and awwing over the pictures, making up new stories to go with the illustrations.

So - a big hit with the 4 year old girl set.
I liked the little story - it was cheerful and taught a couple of lessons...and it was much more focussed on the season instead of the day - which was nice.   I also saw that there is a whole series of these books, beyond the holiday theme so I think a couple of those might need to find their way under the tree this month as well (shh, don't tell)
