The Foxton 24 hour, the brainchild of Stan Jewell who returns to the role of organising races in the North of England and who has been on hiatus since 1993, hopes to provide another springboard for track athletes wanting to qualify for the GB British 24 hour squad.
With things coming together surprisingly well for a first time event, already Stan is optimistic that this event could be a regular fixture on the UK ultrarunning calendar.
With several other long ultras falling over this weekend, runners have lots to choose from as the Grand Union Canal 145 mile ultra has become one of the most popular British ultras and as I write, Mark Perkins, who ran 99.5 miles at the Crawley 12 hour a few weeks ago is duking it out with last years Gloucester 24 hour race winner Dan Lawson and Robbie Britton.

Here in Preston, the sun has long set and as the temperature cools down the runners are dressing up warm for the night.

Among the helpers are Hollinshesd Scouts who are helping man the aid table and the First Aid is kindly provided by Chorley Angels.
