They say it runs in the family, and in this case, ‘it’ is a soulful blend of alternative rock. Twins Alexis (bass) and Zandy Fitzgerald (guitar) paired up with their brother Darius (drums) and cousin Jazz (vocals) to form Nashville’s own The New Respects.

Armed with a musical family tree lineage, the foursome grew up around gospel music, noting Aretha Franklin as a powerful influence. What initially began as a singer-songwriter outfit has gradually given way to more soulful rock layers added to their indie rock sound via the Capitol CMG label.

According to the band’s Facebook page, their music’s message is to deliver truth in bars, notes, chords, measures, beats and rhythms. Their latest single, “Trouble” is doing just that. The track delivers contemplative questions about today’s world with a groovy infused beat. The song aims to help overcome life’s harder moments, those troubled times, something the band’s fans are resonating with.

The New Respects have opened up for Switchfoot this last summer, and are on the road now alongside Crowder on the American Prodigal Tour with Crowder this fall.

The band has already seen success in the charts, landing a spot on Spotify’s “US Viral 50” chart and the future for The New Respects looks even more bright from here on out.
