Feature Friday: Hana Brooks

London singer-songwriter Hana Brooks’ newest single, “Leave It” will be released on Nov. 6 on Spotify for streaming and on her website for download. The UK artist received rave reviews for her former tune, “Someone New,” during her London Sofar Sounds tour. The live music video shows raw talent, an emotional delivery and classic vintage guitar sounds.

Her latest single “Leave It” only adds to the dimension of this upcoming artist’s repertoire: she’s a little bit rock, has got an occasional rasp to her vocals; adding an extra element to that sometimes dreary dream pop genre.

The tune, mixed by producer Nick Bennett (Zak Abel, London Grammar, Asgeir) vaguely reminds me of a Kelly Clarkson-type vocal.

It’s black and white / You know your wrong from right / You get me every time / It’s like you’re inside of my mind

The delivery is a resemblance of that Clarkson’s classic, delicate delivery contrasted with the scorn of a heartbroken, grieving ex. The ‘leave it and I’ll let you go’ mentality comes on strong with this single. Perhaps this is the end of that relationship – but it seems to be the start of something much bigger and better for Hana Brooks’ career.

She will be touring November to promote the debut single all across the UK, and more releases are expected for December and January.
