If the funky fresh slice of pie Michigan band Desmond Jones just served up in its newest single is any indication of what the rest of the debut album will taste like, music fans are in for a treat. After spinning “Good Song,” by the Grand Rapids band, your ears will have you wanting seconds.
The five-member band is made up of John Nowak (drums, vocals), John Loria (bass), George Falk (saxophone, vocals), Chris Bota (guitar, vocals) and Isaac Berkowitz (guitar, vocals).
Recorded with Kevin McKay at Inmuso Studios, mixed by Alex Gauthier and mastered by Glenn Brown (Greensky Bluegrass, Eminem, Billy Strings), the debut full length album features eight original songs, with varying instruments and compositions. The ‘jazz fusion’ band label really doesn’t begin to cover the wide range of styles and sounds the Beatles-inspired-named band produces. Four of the five members also contributes to songwriting, only adding to the diverse influences of the group’s sound – ranging from rock ‘n’ roll, funk, R&B and jazz.
Desmond Jones (ode to “Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da” by the Beatles) has spent the last five years on the road, playing an impressive 400-plus show roster and has a whopping 65 song list in their live rotation list. Classic rock influences include Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, Phish, The Band, Miles Davis and Led Zeppelin.
“Good Song” is a light-hearted, readily suitable song for commercials and ads, and of course – your stereo. It’s road trip-ready for a nice drive. The single is the epitome of a good song–a catchy, easily sing-able chorus, the perfect balance of contemporary sounds mixed with classic brass horns, and an upbeat poppy backbeat.
Desmond Jones will be performing an album release show at Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 7 before the record release on Oct. 10.
