At the age of 34 and bored with his job as a civil servant, David Berridge, who lives on the Isle of Wight with his wife Marilyn, saw a 10 minute clip on TV about a race across the Sahara Desert. Two years later and determined to have just one adventure in his life time, he found himself standing on the start line of the 11th Marathon des Sables.
At the age of 53 David is still having Adventures and continues to race in some of the most Extreme Ultra Distance races in the world. He has taken part in the Namib Desert Challenge, The Jordan Desert Cup, the Yukon Arctic Ultra and in 2013 won the 6633 Ultra.
Later this year David will be running the 160 mile Hill Ultra in the Peak District and early in 2015 he will be taking part in the Gobi March in China and after that, the Iditarod Trail Invitational in Alaska.
David wrote about his experiences at the Marathon des Sable and other races in a book Fartleks and Flatulence published in 2012 and now in its second edition.
There’s an opportunity to meet David at the next book signing on the 8th June, during the Needles Half Marathon.
