Facing Fears of the Unknown

Posted on the 10 December 2012 by Uglytruthis

Fear is limitation

It confines your mind to a state of impossibilities, as we are driven to seek approval in fear of rejection. We may in turn, neglect true self-expression. Trying to be what we feel society has asked us to be. All the while neglecting our true soul calling.

I find that our irrational fears make perfect sence when we take a look into the dark abyss of the past. For example, I have Spheksophobia, which is an unnatural fear of wasps. The fear is so large that sometimes I wont even leave my house to go outside and risk being attacked.

The root of my phobia is that I fear uncontrollable impeding danger. The idea of a wasp stinging is so unpredictable and terrifying, just as was every waking moment of my childhood. I never knew what would make someone explode in anger, so I would try to control the situation by removing myself physically emotionally and mentally from the situation.

I became a master at controlled cayos through escapism. The claustrophobic feeling of not having an escape in a seemingly dangerous situation results in panic attacks. My breathing ceases, my body shakes and shuts down as I become frozen with terror. Instead of controlling my fear, it in turn controls me.

Identify Fears

  • The unknown
  • Judgement
  • Intimacy
  • Saying something wrong
  • Sounding stupid
  • Speaking in front of people
  • Honesty

Fight Fear

There was a period of 3 days were large wasps kept crawling into my house and the only thing left to do was face this fear head on. It was time to stand up, tell myself that I was bigger than the wasp and drenched them in poison. It felt so good to face such a tiny yet unmistakably giant opposition in my life and claim the victory. One step closer to winning the battle.

The best way to beat fear is to fill yourself to the brim with love. Nurture your fearful heart with kind words of encouragement and reassurance.

What make you afraid?

Stay tuned and stay strong my lovely freinds<3 You are not alone
