Is the cholesterol hypothesis dead? A new report questions the link between cholesterol and heart disease, and is critical of the aggressive focus on LDL cholesterol and statin drugs.

Also, the focus on calories for lifestyle interventions is not helpful. We should focus much more on the quality of foods, and recommend a "high fat and low glycaemic load Mediterranean diet".

The authors of the report are Dr. Malhotra, Professor Lustig and investigative medical reporter Maryanne Demasi. It's well worth reading:
