Elemis Fresh Skin Mattifying Moisturiser

By Bbeautylove @bbeautylove

I continue to fly the flag for oily and blemish prone women everywhere and my quest to find great products for our skin continues today with this moisturiser from Elemis.

You probably already know about Elemis (luxury products, spa like results at home, chic packaging) well they created some products specifically designed for young skin with oily tendencies called Fresh Skin. Part of this range is the Skin Clear offshoot which is specifically for very oily and problematic skin.

Aimed at the 16-24 market (although there are no real rules in beauty) this Mattifying Moisturiser is supposed to really help control shine, sebum production and redness. It does have a little bit of Shea Butter in there to make sure skin is still hydrated but it also promises to help diminish post blemish scars as well as, hopefully, preventing new ones forming.

Now, I am comparing this to my recent holy grail product, the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (see post). The main difference I noticed is this one from Elemis feels a lot different on the skin. Instead of sinking in straight away, you can almost feel it working and taking it’s time to soak up any oil. Therefore, it stays quite sticky and tacky on the skin for a few minutes and can feel a little tight on less oily skins.

After it has had time to work it leaves a very smooth, matte base which is perfect for make up. I found that it did keep excess oil at bay and it hasn’t broken me out or made my skin worse. However I don’t think it has helped with current blemishes or redness which I still rely on my Effaclar Duo to tackle.

Do I prefer it to La Roche-Posay? No. I do like this but I prefer the texture and the results of my Effaclar Duo and it is also a little bit cheaper. However I think if you have very oily skin and not many blemishes, the Elemis one would probably work better for you, as it is amazing at warding off shine.

I think this would be perfect in the Summer and on holiday or as a great teenage moisturiser for someone just getting into skincare.

Available from Superdrug, Elemis online, feelunique.com and more. Priced around £20.00 for 50ml.
