I guess I can call him a friend.
Mr. Caleb Daniloff, author of Running Ransom Road: Confronting The Past, One Marathon At A Time, contacted me for permission to use my name in his article written for 'The Fix'. The Fix is pretty much the premier addiction and recovery related online magazine with all sorts of addiction heroes contributing to its cause.
After getting my okay, Caleb emailed me with a list of quick questions, to which I responded with even quicker answers. The result: I get a brief mention in his article: Why Former Drunks Make Unstoppable Runners and sound like a cool, Walter White (well, okay, or maybe Jessie Pinkman) marathoning dude. And he's right: if someone like me can recover and run 26.2, most any wretched soul can.
The article is an excellent read for all runners, I have to believe, and Caleb writes in a lyrical way yet never loses his conversational style and edgy tone.
The irony of having my name mentioned in The Fix is I've been trying to get noticed by the online magazine through my novel, STRAY, which is worthy (damn it) of a review since it tackles not only addiction, but the nature of sick and suffering addicts as well as their caregivers.
But, I'll take the plug, and I really enjoyed the article. It is the kind of material I would write if I hadn't damaged my brain so much. Then again, if I hadn't done the damage and had the experiences, maybe there'd be less to write about.
I do now have a page dedicated to my addiction related posts. Check it out here
