DIY | How To Stud Your Own Jewelry

By Heather Hahn @HeatherHahnn

Everytime I have ever been to a rock concert, or a rock show, I usually always end up buying my own outfit right before the show. This includes most likely a studded t-shirt, quite possibly a few sweat bands, and obviously a good pair of converse.

With how crafting comes easy now a days, I wanted to share with you guys on how you can make your very own studded jewelry, right out of your home. It’s easy, not costly, and less of the hassle.

Be sure to pick out which type of studs, you would like to use. Studs actually come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so depending on what you would like to “stud”, the choice of shape is all up to you.

You will need two types of tools. These two types of pliers will help you attach the studs. Round needle-nose pliers are great for tiny details.

The fine tips easily bend the spikes on the back of your studs, securing them in place on fabric or leather.

Lets stud a few cuff bracelets.

 Tools and Materials:

- Heavyweight cotton webbing or twill tape, about 1 1/4″ thick
– Snaps
– Scissors
– Needle and thread
– Studs
– Round needle-nose pliers and nylon jaw pliers

 Directions:

- Cut webbing to fit wrist, allowing an extra 2 for hemming. Hem both ends of webbing by folding over 1/2, then over another 1/2, stitching with the same matching thread.

 – Center each half of the snap, one on top of one end of webbing, the other on the bottom of the opposite end of webbing. Stitch snaps to each end.

- Plan a pattern by setting studs on top of webbing. When the desired pattern is found, push the studs through and secure them by folding the spikes closed around the webbing. Then squeeze with the nylon jaw pliers to secure studs.
