There is nothing wrong with vanilla flavoured ice cream. It’s sweet, it’s smooth and it’s delicious. But sometimes you need to add a bit of texture, a hint of spice, and a dash of your personality to make it even more delectable. The same goes for a an all white bedroom. White gives a sense of serenity and tranquility which can create the perfect ambiance for your bedroom, but surely you don’t want it to resemble a hospital ward or a dental surgeon’s room, right? What are some of the decorating tips to help complement your white walls and transform it from a blank canvas to a unique space that has your character and style? Well my lovelies, I’ve cooped up four tips for you to do just that!
♥ Light it up!
First thing’s first – you need to find a way to make the room feel warm and cosy by having feature lighting. Pendant lights have been on trend for quite some time, however, fairy lights and candles are popular choices too. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking, did she really just say fairy lights? Why yes, placing fairy lights around your bed walls, or creating a stunning fairy lights sequence on your bedroom canopy or a specific corner of your room can add the feeling of warmth and sophistication. But beware of going overboard; you don’t want a room that looks like Santa’s workshop. Choose one to three of your favorite colours to achieve a cohesive palate. Handy hint: Decorating your room with white candles will bring a sense of elegance and beautiful aroma to your white bedroom.
♥ Think about the texture
Adding textures and layers to your white room is important because it softens the harder surfaces such as the desk, bedside table or bookshelf. One important thing to keep in mind when looking for your white sheets, curtains and rugs and any other fabrics is whether they are stain-resistant. As a busy blogger, I’ve had a few instances where my make up isn’t just on my face at 7 in the morning, but also in the rug! Nevertheless, having stain-resistant white carpet has made my lifestyle easier, but also more cost-effective in terms of maintenance. Handy hint: If you’re working with a medium to large space, you can layer it up by adding a wool rug, whitewashed timber or a crochet blanket. These pieces can add loads of bohomian style and comfort!
♥ Have a stand out piece
It may be a little obvious, but creating a stand out piece for your bedroom can really stamp your personality and character especially in an all white room. For me, having a bold graphic artwork, an elegant chandelier or a feature wall can create a point of interest. Handy hint: With the New Year’s coming, I challenge you to create a feature wall or a vision board of the things you would like to achieve for 2015 – make sure it screams your personality and your vision! But for something a little subtler, you can also replace old door and wardrobe handles with new white ones. This low-cost decorating tip is sure to be an a-door-able addition. What I also love to do is go op shopping to find quirky pieces for my eclectic style and my urban-themed home. Think oversized armchairs accompanied by a small and eccentric coffee table. These contrasts create different dimensions in a room and can transform it from plain white drab to fab.
♥ Be inspired from the outside and bring it in
Whether you live right by a stunning beach, the bustling city or by the gorgeous countryside, make sure you gain inspiration from these landmarks and bring them to your room with a large window or white floor-to-ceiling french doors. The green and blue from the outside will create stimulating contrasts to your all white bedrooms. You’ll also bring in plenty of sunlight to your bedroom which reflects radiantly from your white walls and white bedsheets for that glorious glow.
