Hailing from Washington, DC, Chelsea, Max, and Spencer (fun fact: Max and Spencer are twins!) make up the electro pop trio, SHAED. In 2016, the band signed to Photo Finish Records and have released their debut EP, Just Wanna See.
The band had an exciting 2017 – They released new tracks “Too Much” (our personal favorite) “Lonesome,” embarked on their first co-headlining tour with Foreign Air, and are getting ready to release their debut album this year.
We chatted with the band about how they formed, funny show memories, and some interesting fun facts about each member. Check it out below!
How did the band come together?
We met when we were in high school. Chelsea came to a show and we’ve been best buds ever since. Fond memories of us three all riding together in the bucket seat of our Crown Vic.
Is there a story behind your band name?
SHAED came from one of our favorite fantasy novels Wise Man’s Fear. The story is within the story.
Who or what has inspired your sound and your latest track, “Lonesome?”
We spent two weeks in Death Valley after a show in Las Vegas. The Airbnb was totally secluded, and the only restaurant in town was called Big Dick’s Pizzeria. The song “Lonesome” came from the isolation we felt during that trip and the copious amounts of cheese pizza we were eating.
What is your favorite show memory?
Favorite most recent memory – Max booty bumping Chelsea so hard during “Too Much” that she basically face planted and her wireless pack went flying.
What would be your dream tour and why?
Radiohead because they are our favorite.
Tell us about your writing process; any unusual quirks?
We do everything together so our writing process is very collaborative. We usually dance around a mic chanting until someone comes up with a good melody.
What’s your favorite song to cover?
“Ignition” by R. Kelly, even though he’s a loser.
If you were to create a “soundtrack to your life,” what songs would be on it?
It would be the entire KidA album by Radiohead.
Would you like to add anything else?
Chelsea’s man crush is Bruce Willis. Spencer can make sushi. Max wishes he was Neil deGrasse Tyson.
