Brogan Kerrison A.K.A Glencoe, is a music producer based out of Melbourne, originally from Christchurch, New Zealand.
Brogan has been writing music since the age of 14, but only started releasing music under the alias Glencoe from late 2016. Since then, Glencoe has had two songs, “Brother” (ft. Lani Alo) & “Sugar” (ft. Finlay Tate), played on mainstream radio, and support from NZ on Air. Glencoe is currently working on a self-titled EP, due for release in late 2018.
We spoke with the producer about his start, his musical family, and latest single, “Is This Home” ft. Rory Mckenna. Keep reading for more!
How did you get your start?
To be honest, I still count this as my start! I released my debut single ‘Brother (ft.
Lani Alo)’ back in late 2016 while at University. That single managed to gain a little
attention & some airtime on NZ radio, so I would have to call that my start. From
there I released my second single, “Sugar (ft. Finlay Tate)” late in 2017 with “Is This
Home? (ft. Rory Mckenna)” soon after.
Who or what has inspired your sound and latest track “Is This Home?”
At the time I was listening to a lot of stuff by a producer called Illenium. I love the way
he makes these incredibly massive synth sounds that add these amazing new age
space/vibes/feels. So I was experimenting with those types of sounds & effects at
the time, then my mate Jayden put some soft, contrasting, acoustic guitar to the
track. Once we had all of that together, we showed Rory, he instantly started
humming out a smooth vocal on top, and the rest is history!
Is there a story behind your artist name?
Glencoe is actually a beautiful place! Back in 2015 I was given a present from a
friend. It was a conservation project set up in Scotland that allows you to buy a
square foot of land and have a tree planted on the plot. The coolest part was that by
purchasing the land, it officially makes you a Lord or Lady of that land. Lord Brogan
Kerrison of Glencoe.. Sounds like something from Game of Thrones (which is my
favourite show of all time) so I loved it and wanted to keep it! Lol. If you don’t believe
me, I don’t blame you, but Google Highland Titles!
What is your favorite show memory?
Playing at the Highlanders Super Rugby Zoo games with 30k in the stands was a
real buzz!
What would be your dream tour and why?
One day I’d love to do a festival circuit in Europe. Tomorrowland would be the
pinnacle! I’ve always wanted to go, so having any chance to play there, I’d be all
over it!
Tell us about your writing process; any unusual quirks?
I do have a tendency to have conversations to myself out loud when I write. So that
can be pretty awkward if I don’t forewarn people it’s normal (well somewhat for me).
What’s your favorite song to cover?
My family are all musicians too, so at my 21st my Dad, Brother & myself played a
couple songs together, one being Hotel California by The Eagles, or something that
sounded similar anyway. So would have to say that for its memories.
If you were to create a “soundtrack to your life,” what songs would be on it?
In The Mood – Chicago
Beautiful Lady – Patsy Riggir
Slice of Heaven – Dave Dobbyn
To name a few..
