London native and lyrical pop artist Adam Prince King released of his new single “Before The Sun Goes Down” earlier this month. The single is the follow-up to Adam Prince Kings’ debut hit single “Flamingos”, which went viral upon its release.
The track, which was written and produced by the London based artist, is taken from Adam’s debut EP and will be released later this year. The track is honestly vulnerable, yet filled with catchy hooks and shiny pop lyrics that will make you want to dance throughout the night.
We asked Adam about his start, playing SXSW, and his thoughts on touring. Check out what he said below!
How did you get your start?
I have always been a singer but really got into music production in my teens, I was shit at it but put in hours and hours and after a few years I got pretty good.
Who or what has inspired your sound and latest single, “Before The Sun Goes Down?”
I love when a song surprises you and takes unexpected turns. I wanted the chorus to be brighter to contrast the moodiness of the verses. Some of my tracks can have left-of-the-middle production, but I really liked the idea of going straight up pop for this one; the simplicity of the production allows for the the vocal and the lyric to take center stage.
What is your favorite show memory?
It was in 2013 when I was lucky enough to play at SXSW. The energy in this little bar was electrifying! All these people were jumping around and I felt high as a kite. I came off stage and was interviewed straight away by BBC Radio 1 and I kept shouting “Spring Break” and Lord knows what else. I sounded like I was off my face but I was on a high from the gig.
What would be your dream tour and why?
I’m not sure how I feel about touring yet, it freaks me out a bit. On the other hand I do love the idea of visiting beautiful new places and singing in front of thousands of people! I’d like to do festivals and I enjoy the intimacy of Sofar sounds – I have played a few and it’s a wonderful community feeling.
Tell us about your writing process; any unusual quirks?
I do The Morning Pages from Julia Cameron’s ‘The Artists Way’ to help declutter my mind. Yoga and meditation help but so do coffee and cigarettes!
What’s your favorite song to cover?
I love “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
