Court Your Attention

By Pretendmanblog @pretendmanblog
image Sometimes inspiration comes in unexpected places. Whether you were the kind of person growing up that detested sport more than school or you were the king of the playing field there’s no doubt that the occasionally hallowed ‘courts’ of the past hold striking memories.

For Ward Roberts the memories are mostly fond and became the inspiration behind his courts project. Travelling between Hong Kong, London, Melbourne and New York in 2008 he went in search of these recreational areas to see if they were still as popular now as they were during his childhood.

The results are both haunting and beautiful at the same time, a lesson in composition and architectural harmony showing places that at once desolate and yet full of energy.

The complete work, published in 2012 can be bought from Erm Books.
