Controversial Ondria Hardin Models for Chanel

Fashion heavyweight Karl Lagerfeld was in New York City to head the shoot of the spring 2013 campaign for the House of Chanel. For this Chanel spring campaign, he commissioned the services of controversial Ondria Hardin, a fine talent who’s considered to be one of the most popular these days, not only because of her modeling looks and skills, but the controversies that surround her as well. Much has been said and commented about Ondria Hardin, but the fiercest issue that must have divided everyone was that of her age.Controversial Ondria Hardin Models for ChanelYoung Ramp Model at 14Ondria Hardin can hardly be considered as a typical ramp model. While she is still a green horn at the fashion world, she has already created quite a sensation that kept everyone abuzz. For one thing, she is still considered to be underage. By modeling standards, any model must be at least 16 years old before she can walk the major runways.Breaking Health InitiativeBut still, she was allowed to walk the runway at the fashion show of Marc Jacobs last February when it was clear that she was only 14 during that time. This means that Hardin, or her agency, broke the new Health Initiative rule. This was a rule by CFDA, which clearly stipulated that all professional models must be 16 before they can walk any fashion runway. By breaking this rule, many fashion pundits were quick to comment that Ondria Hardin is being molded to the likes of super model-divas Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss.Modeling for Vogue ChinaHer brush with the Health Initiative rule was not the only controversy that Hardin got herself involved in. She hogged the limelight again by working for Vogue China; this means that the magazine also broke the rule for hiring an underage model. While her manager is quick to retort that Hardin is already 16, others contested that the girl was still below the allowable age of 16 during the Vogue shoot. This clearly violated the health initiative of the magazine. Eventually, Vogue China edition apologized for such an oversight. While everyone is still in the thick of the controversy on Hardin’s age and her stint at Chanel spring campaign, this brings up the issue wherein most agencies and designers actually want models that look adults. So, what’s the point of getting 15 year olds? It’s time to hire model that’s actually 18, and looks her age.Image Source: Fashionista
