Comparison of MAC Paintpots & Maybelline Colour Tattoos

By Beaumaquillagex @beaumaquillagex

Hey Everyone!
So today I am going to be doing a comparison of the MAC Paintpots & the Maybelline Colour Tattoos. This was requested by the lovely Nuala Maria you can check her blog out here.
Maybelline Colour Tattoos- £4.99MAC Paintpots- £14.50
Onto the Comparison:

Now the first similarity these two have is the packaging(excluding the lids). They are both packaged in glass jars that shows the product at the bottom surrounded by a glass 'rim'. As you can see, excluding the text, these look very similar from the bottom. I love how Maybelline have decided to package these because it makes them feel a lot more classy & high end.

From above these look very different, the Maybelline Colour Tattoos have flat lids with the barcode and shade on the top whereas the MAC Paintpots just have a domed black lid with no text on. I prefer the MAC Paintpot lids personally.

From the picture above you will be able to see that from above these look extremely similar and when put all together like this it is hard to notice a difference. I love how the packaging is similar as it makes it a very good dupe!

Next onto the pigmentation, now this is where the main difference is. The MAC Paintpots are designed to be bases more than they are cream eyeshadows, whereas although you could use the Maybelline Colour Tattoos as bases they are more targeted to be a cream eyeshadow product. Because of this the Maybelline Colour Tattoos are a lot more pigmented and the MAC Paintpots are a lot more sheer.
As for texture they feel very similar, they both feel gel based and are very smooth and glide onto the lid. As for lasting power, again they are very similar. The MAC Paintpots are slightly smoother but this is only a tiny bit, and the MCT's are very smooth. The MCT's  do tend to fade a little throughout the day, but they both stay on about the same time. Although this is not one of their claims, both of these products are pretty water resistant because when I went to wash these swatches off my hand they left a pretty strong mark and the color had only faded slightly. Even as I write this post I still have the color on my hands!
You may also be able to tell from the picture above they are very similar finishes, and they are even more similar in person, they both have pretty much the same amount of shimmer and give off an extremely similar finish. (Excluding Permanent Taupe which is a matte colour)
As for color ranges the MCT's come in more bright colours, but they do have some neutral colours, whereas the MAC Paintpots come in much more neutral colours, unless there is a collection out.
Overall my verdict would be that these two products are extremely similar and that for almost £10 cheaper the Maybelline Colour Tattoos are phenominal! However because the color selection from each of the two brands are so different it solely comes down to which shade you want.
Thanks for readingWhat other dupes have you found?
