ColourPop Super Shocked Me, and Will Super Shock You Too.

By Slowdownandsavor

Hey girl, hey. Oh and hello to you too boys! Today, I needed (yes, needed) to take some time to share a new-to-me product that hit my face with the ferocity of a fast moving train. ColourPop Cosmetics has stolen my heart with their super bold, super fun and super shocking, as well as ultra pigmented and ultra colorful eye shadows and lippie sticks. I honestly CANNOT get enough.

I discovered ColourPop on YouTube, go figure, and I became instantly curious. The first sighting was on CoffeeBreakWithDani’s ColourPop Super Shock Shadows review vlog. All the available colors, the swatches she took and the unbelievable pigmentation mesmerized me. Gorgeous. I was then made even more curious when she kept on with the comments about the consistency and formulation of the shadows, calling them creamy, bouncy and strange. Were they wet? Were they, in fact, creams? Or were they powders? What’s going on here?

I watched more videos on the products, and found that more of my favorite YouTubers, ShaaanXO, (who now has her OWN collaboration set of eye shadows) KathleenLights (who has her own Lippie Stick shade) and Young, Wild and Polished, are huge fans of the stuff, and had the same things to say about the products. Their enthusiasm was practically oozing out of the screen onto my keyboard, and I HAD to try them for myself.

When I first went to their website, it was safe to say that I was more than just a touch overwhelmed. They have, oh, A ZILLION colors to choose from in a whole variety of finishes, like Metallic, Pearlized, Satin, Pressed Pigments, Tie Dye, or Ultra Metallic. Did I want to stay in my comfort zone and just go with neutral browns and creams? Or did I want to break the box and try out some of the bright, bold and fun colors that I would normally shy away from? What to do? What to do?

After a long deliberation, I settled on a couple of individual shades, as well as a set of four, created in conjunction with Megan Naik, a makeup artist and beauty guru. If the sheer amount of colors weren’t crazy enough, throw in the fact that they’re only $5 a piece. Everything on the site is $5. The lippie sticks, the lip liner pencils and the shadows are all $5! AND if you spend $30, you qualify for free shipping anywhere in the USA.

Speaking of The USA, ColourPop Cosmetics are based and made in The States, AND they’re cruelty free! They love their fur babies, and we all know how much I love MY fur babies! Hurrah!

So with out any hesitation, I placed my first order of ColourPop shadows and a week and a half later, the neat little package arrived on my doorstep. Very exciting. Very.

The shadows come carefully packed with ultra plush and thick panels of foam. I’d never seen anything like it!

They also included cards with tips on how to use their shadows, like how applying with your fingertip is way better than with a brush. PLUS, they included a hand-written note. Honestly, I felt really special, and even my husband commented on how cool that was. Between the amazing, speak-for-themselves shadows, and the personal touches, my love for ColourPop has been sealed.

And since this first package, my collection has grown and grown and I feel like a crazy cat lady, but with ColourPops. Seriously. Like I am obsessed. The colors are just SO intense, so buttery, so creamy and so glorious.

colourpop review

I could just eat them. I’m pretty sure that would be a terrible idea, but hey, a girl can dream. But then again, why would I dream about eating shadow? What? Who? What? Just… let’s move on to the good part, shall we? The swatches!!!

Amira- Antique gilded gold with multi- coloured and multi- dimensional glitter in a Metallic finish. This one was broken on arrival, which crushed my soul. It’s SO beautiful, and I love it SO much. Luckily, I’ve been able to continue to use it, despite the fact that I’ve spilled and lost so much of the product due to the brokeneness.

Get Lucky – Intense ultra-metallic, liquid-like true gold

So Quiche – A soft olive with a highly reflective gold and pink violet glittery duo chrome metallic finish

Dare – Shockingly bright neon purple with hot pink and violet glitter.

Hammered- Smoky olive with tons of gold glitter and a soft sprinkle of multi-colored sparkles in a metallic finish

For the first time using the products, I decided to go all out. Go hard or go home, right? So, after my little man and handsome hubby and I poured over all the colors, the little man decided that he needed to see me in the purple.

He NEEDED to, he said. It’s BEAUTIFUL, he said. So cute. My husband agreed, and dared me to use it. I said, OK. I guess I could use the super vibrant and super glittery purple color, aptly named Dare, in my look for the day.

I was scared. I was apprehensive, but once I started packing on the color to my lids, the tables turned. I was so fired up. THE PIGMENTATION!!! THE COLOR!!!

colourpop review

The look was stunning, and when I used Dare mixed together with Cricket, and a dark, matte brown shadow from the Lorac Pro Palette called Sable, everything really started to come together and I was so happy. All it needed was some finishing touches with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner and Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara, and I was ready to roll.

So after using the ColourPop shadows, I’ve come to a few conclusions regarding pros & cons.

colourpop review

PROS:

  • Super pigmented and unique colors that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else
  • The colors are true, so what you see in the pan and online are going to be the colors that show up on your skin.
  • ColourPop is kind to fur babies!
  • ColourPop is made right here in the USA!
  • Everything is $5 each!
  • The shadows go on with a super easy application, no tugging or pulling and easy to build
  • Not patchy
  • Comfortable on the eye
  • Long wearing
  • Minimal to no fallout
  • SUPER friendly folks work at ColourPop, and they are awesome at responding and chatting on social media. They’re really personable, and I feel like they care about me as a consumer.

CONS:

  • Some of the softer pigments are susceptible to breaking during shipping, even with the super intense foam layers in packaging
  • Takes a LONG time to arrive, from date of ordering until the day you receive the package. Plan for 1-2 weeks between order to doorstep.

So thank you ColourPop for doing what you do. Keep it up! I fully anticipate my collection to continue to grow and grow. Plus, those lippie sticks are insane. I am planning to share some swatches and a review on those in the future.

Have you ever tried ColourPop Cosmetics? What’s your favorite look using them?
