Ok I'm not really an establishment review kind of person but I figure we all have to start somewhere. The best thing about someone like me is that while I may enjoy a few complimentary perks of the places I frequent, I will never accept anything more for any type of review. It is in fact my opinion and while some of my readers may not like and/or agree with me, I at least hope to enlighten.
When I walked into Chili's today with a friend I was greeted by a host who was very pleasant. He escorted us to the bar area because we agreed that we wanted to have our food to go. When we reached the bar, the server "Jacob" (not his real name), politely asked us for a few minutes to finish up with another customer who was sitting to my right. I understandingly agreed. My friend and I began to talk and while we are chatting I whipped out my pad case to take down notes. Stay with me because this is exactly how my experience went.
I rested my forearms on the bar and and was greeted by a sticky substance. Menus, unused napkins, and receipts were left on the bar. We had been sitting there for about ten minutes when another server came and handed the patron next to me his food. A female server came over to the bar to prepare two margaritas in what looked like beer mugs and she set them on the bar before walking around to retrieve them. When she got to the other side of the bar something made her switch glasses with one of the drinks, the lime of which she placed on the dirty bar, after our server made a new one altogether (he finally reappeared) she picks the lime up off the dirty bar and puts it on the rim of the freshly made drink. Did I mention that he filled the new drink up to the top with as much of the old drink as possible. Yeah, he did that. Although no one had drank from it, there was a reason she switched glasses so throw away the drink!
Finally Jacob came over to take our orders, the kitchen door swing open and standing right there in jeans that were probably worn to work, no hairnet, or gloves, is a line cook. I WAS MORTIFIED! She has her back to me as she prepared dishes talking happily, Jacob is standing there waiting to take my order and looking at me like I'm a bit slow. I let my friend order for me because who knows what else was going on back there, I wasn't paying, and after that I wasn't eating either. Everyone from servers to whom I assume to be the owner and contract workers were in and out of the kitchen. It was horrible. It had taken nearly 45 minutes for take out. No one wore gloves or hairnets. I give this Chili's a C- for a sheer lack of safe food and drink handling skills. The staff was very nice and welcoming and the atmosphere is great. However, if I don't think the food is safe then it kind of defeats the purpose.
I altered the receipt because I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble but something needs to change there.
This has been so Elle*Lo*Quently written by yours truly and I approve this message.
