'Chavalichi Usal' is lentils curry and most important it is healthy with lots proteins in chavali(Black eyed Beans).You can also refer to this as "Black eye Bean curry".
Ingredients:
chavali (Black eyed beans)- 1 cup
2 chopped onions
1 chopped tomato
Red chilli powder- 1 Tsp
Garam masal- 1 Tsp
coriander powder-1/2 Tsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
oil-1Tsp
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Asafetida - a pinch
turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
curry leaves-6-8
copped coriander for garnishing
salt to taste
Method:
1.Cook chavali in pressure cooker with 2 cups of water.(Do not overcook it)
2.Heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds.When it starts pluttering ,add curry leaves ,cumin seeds,Asafetida and
turmeric powder.
3.Then add chopped onion, when it gets properly cooked
means when it changes its color to little transparent, add
tomatoes .Cook all the mixture till oil gets separate from the
tomatoes.
4.Add chavali ,garam masala , red chili powder, coriander
powder and salt as per taste.
5.Mix well and cover it for 2-3 minutes.So chavali will absorb
all the flavor of cooked masala.
6.If you want little gravy, add water and let it boil for 2 more
minutes with all massala and chavali.
7.Garnish with coriander.
Serve with hot roti or rice.
