Centerpoint Station: Burgers and Shakes That Are Actually Worth All the Fuss.

By Slowdownandsavor

It has been a long time since I’ve been actually, TRULY astounded by a restaurant. I’ve traveled far and wide, and have been to a lot of amazing places, and I’ve seen A LOT, both locally and throughout the great U.S. of A. There are some concepts that are just mind blowing in the best of ways, while others appear to be more of just a shot in the dark. So today when I pulled up in the parking lot for Centerpoint Station, a local burger and shake joint, I wasn’t exactly prepared for what I found.

Centerpoint Station

The exterior is super fun, and kitschy. Based on the outside, I expected a rinky-dink country store, small dining area and some random gifty type things inside.

But it was SO much more… Don’t judge a book by its cover, right? Basically, there was stuff everywhere. And it was cool stuff. Not weird stuff. The clothes were adorable. The jewelery was tasteful. And the antiques were awesome. There was just so much going on, I could hardly handle it. But I was there for a reason. I had to stick to the script!

I was there for my food-writing job with local magazine, BobcatFans/SMTX, and I was there to have a shake. Not to buy a dress, or a pair of sandals, or a classic sign, or fudge, or boots, or a burger… NO. Focus!

But after I placed my order for a hand-dipped Blue Bell chocolate malt and yes, a small cheeseburger, I couldn’t help myself. I had to get up and walk around.  It was like there was a magnet pulling me throughout the store. I wandered through the racks of pretty dresses and fun accessories, down some steps to check out boots and back up and further into the back to see the antiques in their “museum.” I was blown away. What in the world is this place? It just kept going, and more neat stuff kept appearing. I was in love.

I made my way back to the front, and saw that if you went to the left, rather than straight back, you’d find yourself in a cozy cafe. This place is HUGE!

After I was done exploring, I figured it’d be best to head back to the front counter to await my malt and burger. First up was the malt.

Magic. They’re not playing any games when it comes to their shakes and malts. Like I said earlier, they’re made with hand-dipped Blue Bell ice cream and only premium ingredients. There’s a ton of flavors to choose from, but with chocolate malts like theirs, there really is no reason to get anything else. Ever. It’s thick, creamy, and just straight up old-school malty perfection.

The burger came soon after my first sips of malt-heaven, and I was floored. It was stunning. Gorgeous. Yes. I am referring to a burger as a thing of beauty, but it was! I mean, look at it!

I usually don’t care much about the bun that holds all the toppings and meat in place, but this bun was something else. I had to ask, and what I learned was impressive. Their buns are scratch-made daily from the same dough that makes their delicious kolaches and mouth-watering cinnamon rolls. Yes, seriously! That’s why they’re so light and airy and just a smidgen sweet.

All in all, this place is worth all the fuss and I can’t wait to go back again soon. Very soon.
