Brewtown Newtown

By Takeeatfoodblog
Brewtown in Newtown has definitely made a name for itself, especially with its ridiculously good looking dish, "The Elvis Burger" (savoury cronut burger), which unfortunately is no longer available since it was not on the menu today.  However, I have seen many pictures on social media of various dishes from Brewtown, so I knew I had to go check it out for myself and to try a cronut since I have never tried one before!

Brewtown is tucked in a small street (O' Connell st)  just off the main Newtown street but it was buzzing full of people when my friend and I arrived there around 11am. There is a large shared space at the entrance and smaller tables along the other side. I absolutely love the chilled atmosphere that Brewtown has, it also has very simplistic decor like lamps hanging over the tables along the walls.

There is a breakfast and lunch menu, I am not too sure when the breakfast menu ends but we were handed both menus connected together. Both menus are quite similar, however the breakfast menu has lighter options. My friend and I decided to order the
Corned beef hash (w/ garden peas, poached egg and parmesan crumbs- $15) and Beetroot cured ocean trout (w/ avocado smash, rye sour dough toast, dill, persian feta & beetroot relish- $16.5). And of course I had to order a cronut!!

Now to the food...

The corned beef hash dish was quite delicious, there were a lot of subtle flavourings that complimented each other very well. The corned beef melted in your mouth instantly and it had a nice tender texture to it. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and the yolk oozed out as soon as you cut through it. The only let down was that there was hardly any potatoes! I think there was only like 4 tiny chopped pieces in the whole dish, there was a lot of onion instead. This was a very pleasant dish, not that filling and a bit overpriced for what you receive.

The beetroot cured ocean trout dish is an extremely photogenic dish, as you can tell :P I was not the biggest fan of this dish because the beetroot was extremely overpowering, I know it is beetroot cured ocean trout but I feel that the flavouring of the ocean trout could of been more dominating. The ocean trout was not as smokey as I would of liked it to be. This dish was actually very refreshing and light, which is good for a light lunch.

Jam filled cronut
This was my first time eating a cronut and to be honest I wasn't amazed by it. I'm not to sure if this was a cronut  that has been left in the cabinet overnight but it didn't taste fresh and the layers were not fluffy or crispy, it was very chewy and the jam was extremely sweet and overpowering. A little bit disappointed since I was looking forward to eating my first cronut. Hopefully, it was just this piece that we got. I still hope to go back to try their other flavor of cronuts!

Overall, the experience of Brewtown was pleasant, there was nothing that was outstanding and would make me want to go back any time soon. All the dishes were mediocre but delivered with quality and care. After an hour of eating there I was quite hungry and this usually doesn't happen after I eat brunch so this may be due to me being extremely hungry or the portions are very small. The ambiance of Brewtown might be something that would draw me back because it is a great place to catch up with friends and relax.

A big thank you to my food buddy, Chloe, for helping me take some of the pictures and teaching me how to properly use my camera :)

Happy eating x
