Book Raid

Welcome to Book Raid, where I will be interrogating authors who will be releasing their debut or their latest books this year. This is a way to highlight debut or latest books that you may want to read after reading this recorded interrogation of what to expect of the book.

I got Miss Nina Berry on the blog today! Even though I was intimidatingly looking, she was so nice to let me into her house to be interrogated about her debut book, Otherkin. But I definitely have a secret about her, I think she’s a shapeshifter. Anyway, below is a recorded interrogation I had with her.

Miss Nina Berry, you have been suspected of hiding some details of the book, Otherkin, from the citizens. If you are not guilty of the suspicions, then I will interrogate you with some questions about the book.

How different is Otherkin from other books out there?

You may have read other books about shapeshifters, but I developed a unique way to explain how and why shapeshifting works in Otherkin. The world building was half the fun.

Also, I haven’t seen a book about a girl with a back brace since Deenie by the amazing Judy Blume. Tying together the ideas of shapeshifting and a girl struggling with body image just made sense.

How much action, mystery, or romance do we have to expect in Otherkin?

We start off with a touch of mystery, move into romance, then spring into action. Then more romance, a hint of mystery, and a big action finale. So you’ll get plenty of each.

What did you like writing the most: the beginning, the middle, or the ending?

The ending. Oh yeah. Definitely the ending.

What was your favorite chapter or part to write?

I love writing action! All the fighting, fleeing, and strategizing were tons of fun to write.

Give us a short quote from Otherkin.

“His long black coat fluttered in the breeze as we walked toward each other slowly, knowing that the sooner we came together, the sooner we would part.”

Thank you for your time Miss Nina! It is advised that you are free of all the suspicion of hiding Otherkin from the citizens!
