Blue Mountain Waterfalls and Where to Find ThemBlue Mountains, New South Wales

Just a short drive inland from Sydney, the Blue Mountains offer visitors stunning views, peaceful forest scenery and fantastic bushwalks. The area also hosts a number of impressive waterfalls which can be found throughout the area. Add these waterfalls to your itinerary on a day out in the Blue Mountains.

Katoomba Falls

The incredible 244 meter cliff drop makes Katoomba Falls one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Blue Mountains. The permanent falls flow year-round but are particularly spectacular after a heavy downpour of rain in the area.

Located near Echo Point in the Jamison Valley, there are multiple walks that will offer you views of the cascading waters. If you want to get close, take the Round Walk for the best views. It’s a 1 hour round hike with a lot of stairs on the return, so take plenty of water with you. If you don’t quite feel up to such a trek, the Skyway at Scenic World offers the best views as it glides over the Jamison Valley. You can access both the walk and the Skyway by parking at the Scenic World car park on the corner of Cliff Drive and Violet Street.

Wentworth Falls

Wentworth Falls is the name given to the 187-metre-high waterfall, but also the nearby town where you can find them. There are a number of walks and hikes in the area that take in views of the falls. Most of them start from the Conservation Hut or the Wentworth Falls picnic area and range from the moderate Valley of the Waters (1.5 kilometres) to the more difficult Wentworth Pass (5 kilometres).

Leura Cascades

The Leura Cascades are a set of waterfalls in the Leura Cascades creek, that can be reached via a number of easy to moderate walks in the area. The walking paths meander through the valley under eucalypts and tree ferns, maintaining the cool even in summer. There are bridges that cross the creek from which to admire the falls and a picnic area with tables where you can stop and rest for lunch.

Bridal Veil Falls

Further downstream from the Leura Cascades are the Bridal Veil falls. Here the water flows over a 180 meter drop in a wispy flow over the rocks, creating the illusion that gives it the name Bridal Veil. The best way to reach these falls is via the Govetts Leap Lookout which offers spectacular views over the Grose Valley.
