This past week, my husband booked a surprise trip for just the two of us to head to the nearby city of San Antonio for a “nearcation.” I couldn’t have been more excited for this getaway, not only because we’d be eating REALLY well (check out my review of Cured at Pearl), but we’d be able to visit The Alamo and do some of the cool touristy stuff that we wouldn’t normally get to do.
We arrived at The Crockett Hotel around 2:30 p.m., and I was immediately thrilled. Through our window, I could see The Alamo. As I mentioned before, I have never seen The Alamo, and this fact tends to draw shock and disbelief and a lot of, “What do you mean you haven’t seen The Alamo?” Well, growing up in southern New Jersey, I didn’t exactly have access to the famed Texas mission. I had access to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. So yeah, I was really excited to experience this historical landmark.
After having a ton of fun touring The Alamo, looking at all the neat artifacts and enjoying the perfect spring day, we decided to take a walk over to the River Walk, and take a River Tour! On our way, we found some cute horses, and I really enjoyed the Sebastian installation, The Torch of Friendship.
I really enjoyed the 30-ish minute river tour, and learned quite a bit about the city.
After the tour was over, we decided take a leisurely walk through the city back to the hotel, where we enjoyed happy hour and got ready for a romantic dinner at one of Jason Dady’s restaurants, Tre Trattoria.
I loved our touristy day in San Antonio, and this nearcation was really shaping up to be one of the best trips ever. Stay tuned for more San Antonio fun, including a review of Tre Trattoria, our experience at El Mercado, and a review of Mi Tierra Cafe.
What’s been your favorite trip? Have you ever been a tourist in a city close to you?
