Behind The Song: “Fading” – Wensday

Wensday is a project by Melbourne based singer-songwriter Rachel Rothfield, and producer Davide Carbone.

The latest single from the project is “Fading,” which tells the story of giving up the conventional path to follow her passion, and the fear and self doubts that come with it. Rachel dropped out of university to follow a career in music, and struggled with wondering if she made the right decision, a dilemma that many people in their 20’s seem to face.

Read what Rachel had to say about the inspiration and writing of the track below.

“‘Fading’ was written at around the mid-way point of recording my first, full-length album. It was towards the end of summer, and I was standing in the shower when I noticed my tan lines and thought ‘they’re fading fast!’ It may sound strange, but as soon as the phrase ‘fading fast’ popped into my head, it really resonated with me, and seemed to completely capture all of the emotions I was feeling at the time. So, I quickly went downstairs to sit at my piano and wrote the song in a few hours. ‘Fading’ tells the story of giving up the conventional path to follow your passion, and the fear and self-doubts that come with it. The track was produced by Davide Carbone and recorded in his Samplify studio in Melbourne. ‘Fading’ was definitely one of the most enjoyable tracks to record on the album, drawing inspiration from classic 80’s pop music, and with a driving bass line and catchy synth leads. Once Davide and myself had finished recording ‘Fading’ we were both extremely happy with the result, and it became the title track of my debut album.”
