Because Today Is Shark Week | Shark Week Cupcakes

Since today marks the most anticipated week that basically everyone has been waiting for all summer long, i’ve had the major urge to make these since before today even started.

Aside from being overly excited that Shark Week officially begins today, I feel like i’m just as excited to chow down on some “theme related” goodies such as these Shark Week cupcakes.

I’ve never really been too much of a “shark movie buff”, but I am really looking forward to the cage diving segments, and actually learning more about sharks, more-so then the movie “Jaws”.

These Shark Week cupcakes have been a long time favorite of mine for a few years now, so I felt as though I needed to list the recipe below for maybe some of you that are interested in trying these as well!

Happy Shark Week!

Ingredients For Chocolate Cupcakes:

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Easy White Icing

Directions:

  1. STEP 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line up a 12-cup standard muffin tin with paper liners.

  2. STEP 2

In a medium bowl, mix together cocoa, flour, baking powder, and salt, and then set aside. In a mixing bowl, mix together cream butter and sugar until it is light and fluffy. Then be sure to add eggs, one at a time, well beating them well, and then beat in with vanilla. With your mixer on low speed, add flour into your mixture in two batches, alternating with sour cream and beginning and ending with flour.

  3. STEP 3

Pour the batter into cups, filling each 3/4 full. Bake this until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes.

  4. STEP 4

Cool it in a pan for about 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, then spread with Easy White Icing using a table knife or small offset spatula.

 For The Shark Fin:

+ Just use a gummy type of candy, I would use “Airheads”-Obviously the blue flavored candy, and I would cut the airhead out into the shape of a shark fin.

+ Or, the other option seen above is that, you can just cut out a shark fin with something as simple as a basic chocolate cookie, or Oreo cookie, and cover the shark fin {cookie cut-out} in blue frosting, which you may have to use food coloring to do so, since it’s kind of hard to find actual blue frosting.
