Beauty Event: Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013

By Bbeautylove @bbeautylove

Sandwiched between the Golden Globes and the Oscars, the SAG awards are the latest American award show we get to enjoy before we can get super excited about our best award show, the BAFTA’s.

Compared to the GG’s, there was a little less diversity in terms of make up on the red carpet. The usual mix of soft smoky eyes and nude lips are all very well and good but three’s a trend and there was only one that really caught my eye.

The red lip has always been an awards show staple, but in recent years it has been relegated to an ‘appearance on the red carpet’ instead of a ‘trend on the red carpet.’ It seems however, that people are falling back in love with it and at the Screen Actors Guild awards last night, ladies fell into either one of two red lip camps.

The Tomato Red lip and the Brick Red Lip. One is obviously a lot brighter, more vibrant and summery. The other more grown up, rich and slightly Gothic in tone. Check out my picks below and pick a side…

The Tomato Red Lip

An instant complexion pick me up, this brightened up the faces of Kelly Osbourne, Naomi Watts and my favourite, January Jones who was also rocking a quiff! You don’t see enough quiffs on the red carpet in my opinion! The red tone was used to add interest to a simple outfit, most commonly a monochrome assemble (very S/S13) so to avoid going all out Sixties, these clever ladies used their make up to spice things up.

The Brick Red Lip

This on the other hand is the tomato red lips older, wiser cousin. The rich tones and matte textures can be difficult to pull off, but with luxurious skin everyone from Claire Danes to Anne Hathaway was rocking the brick. Michelle Dockery went one further on the Gothic scale and teamed hers with a mass of smouldery black shadow which shouldn’t have worked, but totally did! This color adds definition and distinction to the face which makes your features more striking without the need for bold color.

Other favourites to mention are Nicole Kidman’s amazing black eyeliner, Jessica Parè’s amazing brown winged eyeshadow and Amanda Seyfried, who just keeps looking better and more beautiful every time I see her. Her skin and make up is so incredibly enchanting it looks like she isn’t even wearing anything obvious. She just always looks that damn good!!

So which red lip look is your favourite? Tell me in the comments below.
