Baby Journal Update: Month 2

2 month old baby

Baby Jack is now two months old… TWO MONTHS?!? When did that happen? It must have just passed by during all of the feedings, crying, fussing, feedings, changing diapers, lots of poop, burping, finding the pacifiers, feedings, crying, fussing, Major’s 7th birthday, Major’s baseball games, practices, baby snorting (yes, snorting), SMILING (!!!!), baby wiggling, more of Major’s games, playing with Major, baby stretching, baby actually paying attention to books and little baby videos, homework with Major, Major losing his 3rd tooth… Yes, that’s where this past month went. It just went.

But as you can see, there were a LOT of milestones along the way.

Major turned 7, and lost his 3rd tooth – his first FRONT tooth – and that was very exciting. The Tooth Fairy was faithful in her contribution, and he couldn’t have been more excited. I love it.

Baby Jack has been SMILING. I die. I just plain die inside when I see his beautiful, sweet and sensational little smile. It can turn my entire day from bad or so-so to amazing. Even just the other night, we were up for what seemed like forever, (from 1:30 a.m. until 4 a.m.), and out of nowhere, he just started smiling. REALLY BIG. Like, a huge, open-mouthed, sweet as sugar smile.

I crumbled and melted before his feet. Oh, you want to stay up a bit longer, sweet baby? That’s fine… I don’t care that I only sleep 4 hours of broken sleep a night any more. A smile like that will melt the tallest ice burgs and widest glaciers.

Baby Jack also just had his 2-month doctor checkup, where we learned that he’s a whopping 10 pounds, 7 ounces, and 22.75” in length. He’s a big boy, that’s for sure, and he’s only getting bigger. He eats and eats, and eats some more. And guess what? Our awesome doctor predicted Jack’s full-grown height based off of both Michael’s and my height! He thinks he’ll be about 5’9” or 5’10”. We shall see. I’ll check in again on this in, oh, 16 years.

Mr. Smiley has also found his hands, and loves looking at them, holding them and he has even started to reach out for things. It’s really exciting to watch him explore the world around him, and it’s even more exciting to see him watch his world grow from being just a few inches from his nose to the big, beautiful place that it is.

The best part, though, is that Mr. Jack SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT on the eve of his 2nd month of life. That’s right. he slept from around 11 p.m. all the way until 6:22 a.m. and it was a miraculous experience. Yes, I woke up a few times here and there to make sure he was alive and what-not, but are you kidding me?

There have been some trying times over the past month too. It’s not all unicorns and fairies. Nope. Take for instance last night’s trip to Chick-Fila. Major was playing and having fun in the little play-place room after we finished our meals, and in the mere seconds that passed between looking at the baby, looking up to watch Major and then looking back down at Jack, somehow he had a poo-splosion. A POO-SPLOSION. I saw it in his car seat, in his onesie, and I knew I was in for it.

I rushed him over to the bathroom’s changing table and braced myself. I wasn’t prepared for all of that poo. My word. How can such a little baby make SO MUCH POOPIE?!?!

Anyway, our little bundle is budding, growing, smiling and grasping his way into his third month of life, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what happens next.
