Baby Journal Update: 3 Months

By Slowdownandsavor

Baby Jack Houston officially reached the 3-month mark on Father's Day, the 21st of this month, and I just can't believe how much has happened, and how much has changed in the past 4 weeks.

He's been eating a LOT... Like... A LOT.

We have a solid and happy breastfeeding relationship, especially during the night. I've been so happy with the pain-free nursing, and am grateful I didn't give up during that first, and some of the second month. It's been really great getting to spend that special time with my little buddy.

However during the day, I have had to be joyful in some formula supplementation. He will nurse for about 15 minutes, and then suck down a prepared 4 oz bottle. And then cry like he wants more. I know he doesn't want more. But my word, he just eats and eats! And grows and grows!

Yep. He's GROWN. He just keeps getting bigger and bigger... and bigger still. His hands are monstrous, and his feet are catching up. He's looking taller and feeling heavier in my arms. It's amazing to see the changes in him, even after a few days.

Baby Jack is also becoming more and more alert. He's more active, stays up longer, and has started to really enjoy playing and cuddling with his stuffed bunny. He stares at it and will pull it up to his face over and over. He's a huge fan of being read to, and loves it when his brother reads to him too.

He also loves grabbing at the puppy toy that talks and sings, the Fisher-Price Smart Stages puppy, and sucking on (yes... sucking on) a bouncing/shaking lamb toy from Little Tikes, called a Wiggimal. The lamb sort of freaks him out most of the time, but it was also the first thing that ever made him laugh.

That's right! We were able to hear his very first laugh this month, and it was amazing. I, of course, started crying as soon as I heard it, because that's just how I do. He has yet to laugh again. I hope that I didn't scare the laugh out of him with my tear-fest... But it was amazing. It was like "hehehe (SNORT!) Ha!" Incredible. Oh gosh. I'm going to cry again thinking about it.

He does still smile all the time. It's amazing. He smiles so big when he wakes up and sees my face. He smiles when his granddaddy makes silly faces at him, and when his nana makes funny noises. He smiled at his daddy SO BIG when he saw him over a FaceTime call, since he's been in Baltimore at our new home while we stay back to tie up some loose ends. He's a smiling fool, that's the truth.

He rolls over from his belly to his back during the dreaded tummy time. I am not even kidding. He hates being on his belly more than anything in the entire world, and has just decided to go ahead and roll over to avoid at all costs. He's a very determined and very strong little fella. He can bear weight on his feet and legs, and will stay in a standing position for quite some time before deciding sitting is better for now.

He sleeps most of the night, which is incredible. He even went 10 hours straight a few nights in a row at the middle of the month, but has pretty much averaged out at 6 hour spans, from when he falls asleep until he needs to eat, but most of the time, he'll just fall right back to sleep once he's full. It's amazing.

I'm also doing laundry every single day because of his massive spit-up episodes. We go through at least 3 outfits per day, and hey, that's OK. It's been exciting to have to discover where in Target you can find a clean-up kit to tend to the puddles he leaves on the floor on a particularly good day... Yeah...

Overall, our baby is truly amazing. He's a super happy, loveable little dude, and I am so excited to watch him change right before my very eyes on a near daily basis.
