Slow Down and Savor - a food blog

This past Wednesday, I attended the Austin FOOD & WINE festival’s media mixer and press event over at the brand spakin’ new sophisticated dining destination, La V.

I had heard only amazing things thus far about the new French inspired East Side fine dining space, and couldn’t wait to see what it was all about.

When my husband and I arrived, the party was just getting into full swing and I won’t lie, I was feeling a LOT intimidated. I mean, we were in a crowd full of the “who’s who” of food and entertainment journalism, chefs and PR people. To say I was humbled would be an understatement.

Luckily, we had some delicious wine and food coming our way to get my mind off of feeling nervous. The food was sensational. My favorite was the chorizo fritter. It was crispy on the outside and smooth and velvety on the inside, and tasted like smokey-spicy perfection. The smoked oysters with some apple and jalapeño salsa were a close second. In fact, they might actually be first… I’m having a hard time deciding which one I liked more. The asparagus dish was also quite lovely.

They also were passing around house made ice creams with deliciously filled cones. Choosing between the coffee ice cream with a chocolate ganache filled cone, the pistachio ice cream with a Meyer lemon curd filled cone and the lemon berry sorbet with a salted caramel filled cone was extremely difficult. But I think that that berry sorbet took the cake, so to speak, for me.

The event was amazing, and I got to connect with a lot of super awesome people, and finally met some of those that I’ve been “online” blog friends with! How cool? I can’t wait to get back to La V for dinner. The dinner menu looks mouth-wateringly divine, if I do say so myself!
